Get the a complete collection of game mechanics with insights to help you design and build your dream games.
The Non-Linear Level Selection is a progression structure in which players can freely choose which level or stage to attempt next from a predefined set, without a mandatory sequence imposed by the game. All available levels are accessible from a central hub or select screen, and the player decides their own order of engagement.
The mechanic tests the player's ability to reveal their own path through the game's content. By removing a prescribed sequence, it hands the discovery route to the player.
