Godot 2D Switches & Triggers
Deckbuild your next game
This a Godot Engine implementation of the 🟢Environmental Trigger Switch gameplay element from the Ludonauts Gameplay Library.
Get the a complete collection of game mechanics with insights to help you design and build your dream games.
The Environmental Trigger Switch is a mechanic where the player interacts with a fixed element in the environment (pressing a button, stepping on a plate, pulling a lever) to produce a permanent or conditional state change in another part of the space — most commonly unlocking a door, lowering a barrier, or activating a platform.
Use when you want players to engage with the level as a system to solve rather than a corridor to traverse. It introduces a low-cost discovery layer: the challenge is spatial reasoning (finding the trigger and inferring its effect) rather than mechanical execution. Use when you want to break traversal monotony without increasing combat complexity.
This can be found in games with a healthy Adventure dimension, from RPGs to Metroidvanias.
